Our Journey as a family towards memorisation of the Qur'aan

Assalaamu alaikum,

What’s been happening?

Alhamdulillaah today the children finished Surah Al Ma’idah. We’re all really pleased alhamdulillaah.

What’s next?

Instead of sticking to the normal order and starting Al-An’aam, we’ve decided to move another part of the Qur’aan and begin Surah Yusuf. I’ve moved there too (and my husbands on his way…) so we’ll all be learning it together alhamdulillaah.

For Islamic studies, we’ve been paying a lot of attention to this story as there are so many different things that we can benefit from. It’s a really important story to understand as it teaches us to remain steadfast in times of adversity and that we will eventually be successful. With steadfastness comes a heavy lesson in Sabr which means patience or endurance. It also teaches us about  how to treat our parents, making dua and it being answered etc it holds so many lessons.
We decided its only natural that we start to memorise it  as it already has an important place in our hearts and minds. This will also make it easier to memorise and will (bi ithnillaah) aid us to concentrate and contemplate a lot more while we recite it.

We’re hoping to make it a really comprehensive study of the Surah including Geographical study of where they were and historical study of what things were like during that time and what else was happening in the rest of the world. Art projects of the achitecture or making palace utensils, writing projects where we ask the children to write a short story imagining themselves as people living during that time. Our aim is to help them  imagine what things were like for Prophet Yaqoob and his sons (alayhi salaam).

This is a Ramadhaan project so, we’d like to complete the study and hifdh by the end of the month in-shaa Allaah.  It will also give us something really special to recite during our night prayers that we can feel and understand with our hearts.

This is something we hope to do with all of the stories mentioned in the Qur’aan bi ithnillaah so we pray that this is the start of many beautiful projects for our family and maybe yours too ❤

May Allaah make it of benefit to us and accept it from us and make it a reason for our Love for Him to increase and His love for us to increase aameen
