Its been a while since I posted last, but Alhamdulillaah we have all been quietly working. We found a really cool spreadsheet maasha Allaah. Once you input how much you have memorised and how much you memorise per day, it calculates the exact day that you will finish on! Let me know if you are interested in using it and I’ll post the link.
Seeing my finish date has really given me a boost in motivation alhamdulillaah. It’s really made the goal seem real and achievable.
After the children calculated when their finish date was, they both decided that they wanted to memorise more per day as the date was too far away!
Alhamdulillaah, I’m glad that it made them want to do more as it could of gone the other way and they could of decided to just quit at the thought of all of the work ahead!
Sometimes you can use their personalities to help motivate them. My daughter is a girl that likes to have fun maasha Allaah and would play all day if she could. To encourage her we recently reminded her that she was the one in control of when her next party was (we have parties when they finish a surah or a juz). It could be as soon as this week or in a few weeks time. It all depended on how hard she wanted to work to finish her current surah. After hearing that, her face lit up! I could almost see the party scene that she was imagining lol.
Then she grabbed her mushaf and got to work. She started memorising extra at night and in the morning too all by herself may Allaah bless her.
Watching our weekly episode of Al Musaafir/Traveller with the Quran has really helped keep us going. Seeing other children that have already done it of different ages really helps.
Its been a really exciting time as we have been trying to gently encourage the children to memorise on their own. Its a huge step for us subhan Allaah.
I pray that Allaah bless my family continue to make things easy for us. I pray that our actions are sincere and that He accept our efforts from us Ameen
