Assalaamu alaikum,
we have now started a new review schedule alhamdulillaah.
We used to read half a juz (10pages) every day before breakfast but now that they have memorised that amount I felt that they would need to increase the amount they review to 1 juz per day so that they can read it all in a week. 
I think that even though its more work it makes things firmer in the memory to review everything in a week. The plan is to eventually read 5 ajzaa per day but that is much much later. We tried reading the other half juz in the evening just before bed but that was an unreliable time as sometimes we would be tired or I would be busy with other things.
Now we read the whole juz in the morning, still before breakfast but we stop at 10pages and scream “Date-Break” lol. Then we have a few dates to relax our eyes and boost our energy and then we carry on reading the other 10 pages.
They feel quite happy that they’ve read a whole juz and sometimes in the evening I remind them of that showing them that they can still have a whole day of work and lots of fun. It also emphasises to them the benefit of finishing the important things in the morning.
I think we’ll stick to this for a while even when we have to read 2 juz in-shaa Allaah as it works. We’ll just increase the number of “Date-Breaks”. Its also nice to spend that time together.
It can be tricky reading with them in the morning as they like to interrupt with little complaints of “she read it wrong” “hes poking me” etc So what we do now is read with an audio in the background. We follow the recitor and because no-one wants to get left behind by the recitor it stops them from interrupting.
We read at a faster pace when we review so the audio we use has to be a quite a fast pace too. We have an audio player that has a function to speed up anything it plays. I bought it from www.highcriteria.com I have used this throughout my whole memorising life and I really love it maasha Allah. Its called Total Recorder. I paid but i really do think it was worth it alhamdulillaah. There are also some fast reciters out there that we could use for review like Saood Ash Shuraim.

I wanted to thank you sincerely for this post. Its advice was so incredibly helpful for my family as we were struggling a lot with revision. This method has made our revision so much easier, alhamdolillah, and also our memorisation of these revised surahs is much stronger than before. (we have been using this method for about 3 months now.)
I have never met you, but you are one of my favourite people. I ask Allah to give you and your family abundant good in this life and the next. Amen.
you know what sister, today when I woke up I was having a bit if a “funny morning” where things were not going the way that I would like so was feeling a bit down. For wahtever reason I decided to check my emails and I saw and read your message and you just made my day subhan Allaah. I am so glad that you hav been able to use one of our methods I can’t believe you have been doing it for so long. I write this stuff but I don’t know… I never really think that anyone is actually doing it in their own homes subhan Allaah. Baarakallaahu feeki may Allaah make it easy for you and grant you and your family the ability to easily memorise His Speech and to implement it in your daily lives and beautify your characters with it and make it a reason for your intercession on yawmul qiyaamah and may you rise in level in the afterlife because of it ameen. JazakAllahukhair so much for sharing your journey with Quran, we are beginners like me as as my son’s teacher in his journey of memorizing Quran. I have so many questions, yesterday was very hard day for us so I was searching if I can find some one who is doing Quran with the kids on their own and SubhanAllah I found yr blog. It is very encouraging MasahAllah, (I am not that strong at all). We also have one online teacher for him, he turned 9 this june, it’s been a year we are doing Hifz but still we have lots of problems. My questions are like how you guys revise like read it with the Quran or kids have to say it from their heart, the ajzah they already memorized?
Did the kids take classes for reading fluently the Quarn and tajweed before memorization?
And finally how many hours you spend in hifz? and when they do home schooling?
Our schedule is always very hard we barely finish our goals, he started taking 11 lines each day and Masahllah he is now on his 7 juzz but it’s always a struggle to revise the old lessons. I saw massahallah your kids are going in a good speed how many line do they take? Do you have any teacher for them because I feel like sometimes my son feels lots of pressure because he has to recite to somebody else.
Sorry for all the questions but I really want to continue this journey for him and we don’t have any good madarsah here and I am so weak Shitan is always

firstly I would like to apologise for not replying to your message sooner may Allaah help me I am really really sorry. I pray that your situation has become easier for you. to answer your questions, for their revision we read 1 juz per day looking at the mushaf and we always try to keep our finger on the line that we are reading to make sure that we are paying attention. We try to read at quite a pace as this keeps our attention and takes less time as oneday we will be reading much more per day in-shaa Allaah so we do not want it to take up a lot of time as it may become difficult. During their class whatever juz they reviewed in the morning they are asked questions about it i’e they are asked to read the beginning of suratul fajr and they must try and do this without looking. they will get about 3-4 questions each on the same juz and that is the review done for that day. They listen to the surah they are learning at night to help them to prepare for the ayaat taht they are going to take the following day. Regarding them learning to read I taught them and the review that they do looking at the mushaf has helped them with their reading a lot as they were looking at the words they were saying everyday and it really really helped them a lot alhamdulillaah. For tajweed I do not teach them the official rules but i just tell them how to read what they are reading. In-sha Allaah when they are older I will teach them the rules of tajweed.
for hifdh they spend no more than 30minutes on this. BEcause they listen to the surah they are learning daily in their bedroom it starts the hifdh process for them and makes things much easier for them when they have to sit. They dont take too much per day just enough to keep things comfortable. For their homeschoolingthey spend about 3 hours on work but this is broken up. Its less time than a school because the numbers are so much smaller.
They do study with a teacher but they dont mind it too much these days they take maybe around 5 lines per day. How old is your son?

Alhumdulilah I just want to let you know that I am using a lot of your tips in our hifz. May Allah reward you for sharing with us, I read all yr posts I am happy I found yr blog. My son is 9 and half and he just finished his 10 juzz Alhumdulilah and now he will take a break for review/test for about a month. We are doing more hifz and just doing core subjects in home schooling and our aim for him is to finish Inshallah Hifz of Quran in 2 years. Where do you live sister? We are in US florida.

Sister I read yr post regarding your kids Mashallah finished 10th Juzz. Congratulations to them and your family!!!!!!!!
Can I kindly know their review schedual? My son will Inshallah start his 11 juzz soon but I am little concern about his revision, we had his teacher changed recently, the old one asked us to review at least half juzz from the back ( munzil)and he had to test it after that. Also the juzz he is on let say 6 juzz from the begging he needs to review until his new lesson, (subqi) also our goal is to take now 1 page (new lesson) It is over whelming for us now, but we want to move forward, I remember that you said you guys do revision by looking at the mushaf, so I am thinking may be we should give that a try,its look a bit easy(not to say it from the memory ) but only problem is how we can analyse that the old juzz my son still remember them. Also I was wondering about your kids teacher, like do they go somewhere or they do classes online? If online can you give their contact info my email address is aminatayyab@hotmail.com

Theya re currently reviewing 1 juz per day in the morning and they review the juz they are currently memorising by listening to it on a audio every evening. The audio helps revision and to make the ayaat they memorised in the last lesson to stick better with them. This works especially well when they are listening to a recitor that they enjoy whose voice is clear. My children really like a young recitor called Ahmed Misbahi. They love to hear the young voice so it really encourages them
They also are questioned by their teacher about the juz that they reviewed that morning .g if they reviewed Al Israa today then she will ask them question about it in the class to check their review. If they feel a surah is not firm enough in their memory they will still not read it without looking, they instead read it more looking at it and then, try and read it to someone without looking once they feel that they’re able to do so. We are looking to increase the amount they review per day to maybe 1 1/2 to 2 juz in-shaa Allaah. We tried before but unfortunately we werent consistant but we’ll try again in-sha Allaah. Keep making dua for him that Allaah make it easy for him. I’ll email you the details of the people we are studynig with but I have a few links to other instutues like them maa shaa Allaah. I have completed my hifz Alhumdulillah .. but i have some questions about review…. I really dont know whether reviewing with looking into the mushaf will help… With looking I can easily read 5 Juz per day…. but without looking if i revise i can do only 1 1/2 juz per day which means 20 days for 1 cycle…. I read a Sheikh’s advice that after completing Hifz read 2 Juz per day 3 times for 1 year and thereafter 5 juz per day…
Another Sheikh said read 5 Juz p/day with looking into mushaf for 1 year and you will know entire Quran like Surah Fatiha…
I am confused on which 1 to follow..
My situation is 10 Juz are strong, 10 medium, and 10 pretty weak.
What do you advise?

I think that maybe it would be good if you read looking for your review and reviewed 5 ajzaa per day. You could take a small portion from the quran per day to work extra hard with and then have yourself tested by a teacher or a friend or family so that you can get a chance to recite it without looking. This way you can try to get the best of both. I was advised that reading while looking helped the brain to keep memorising the page appearance which really does help some people. When you recite from memory can you see the page in your imagination? If yes then I definetely reccomend that you review reading for a while and Allaah knows best.
